Abstract

The present work develops an analytical model for electroosmotic peristaltic transport of a Williamson fluid in a flexible annular channel. The flow takes place between two concentric cylinders, where the inner wall is rigid and the outer wall undergoes sinusoidal elastic deformation. An externally applied axial electric field interacts with the electric double layer generated by prescribed wall zeta potentials. The electric potential is governed by the Poisson-Boltzmann equation and is linearized using the Debye-Huckel approximation. Under the assumptions of long wavelength and low Reynolds number, the governing equations are reduced to a nonlinear ordinary differential equation for the axial velocity. A regular perturbation expansion in the Weissenberg number is employed to obtain analytical expressions for the velocity, shear stress, and stream function. The model shows that electroosmotic forcing, wall zeta potential, annular geometry, wall elasticity, and Williamson rheology significantly influence the velocity field, wall shear stress, and trapping pattern. In the absence of electroosmotic forcing, the formulation reduces to the classical flexible annular Williamson-fluid peristaltic model.
